The Holland Society of New York - Tulip Night April 2, 2008
The New Amsterdam and Old Bergen County - Central New Jersey Branches of the Holland Society of New York are planning 2008
Tulip Night, a benefit for 5 Dutch Days. Tulip Night will also serve as the official grand opening and
dedication of the new library and offices for The Holland Society of New York at 20 West 44th Street, Fifth Floor,
New York, NY 10036.
The evening will commence at 6:30 with a selection of beverages and appetizers and tours of the new Holland
Society library and offices and office tours of the other historical societies housed on the
5th floor including the St. Nicholas Society. Holland Society trustee and architect Kenneth
Hewes Barricklo will give personal tours of the beautiful library and offices which he designed and
will speak about his inspiration for the library build out. The editor of the de Halve Maen, the Holland
Society magazine, Dr. David W. Voorhees, will speak about the extensive library and collections of the society.
Volunteer New York interior designer Oona Sperr will be on hand to show guests the finishing details.
Attendees will be treated to a fabulous display of art work by Len Tantillo (www.lftantillo.com)
depicting scenes of early New Amsterdam in the 1600's. In addition, the authors of the newly released book "A Huguenot
on the Hackensack / David Demarest and His Legacy", David C. Major and John S. Major will be on hand to present
a copy of their book The Holland Society library in person. Also our Holland Society fellow and author
Firth Fabend will discuss her sixth and newest book "Land So Fair", a novel
set in the 1700's in the Hudson Valley on land her family has owned for 11 generations.
Brief presentations from the above participants
will be made during the event from 7:30 to 8:00 and the event will conclude at 8:30.
Each participant will be asked to make a $25.00 donation to the 5 Dutch Days organization, to help support the
fall event which celebrates the history of the Dutch in New Amsterdam in five boroughs in Manhattan.
