The Dinner of Discovery: This was an elegant black-tie optional formal/informal catered dinner with entertainment on the Senate House grounds.

The Dinner's Dutch period menu began with cocktails and Dutch appetizers,. A parade of flags accompanied by burghers armed with pikes and wearing the helmets of the Holland Society preceded Grace said by our Domine Rev. Rett Zabriskie. There were multiple toasts, 17th century music and dance demonstrations. A special presentation was made to Holland Society President Colin G. Lazier by the Ulster County Clerk. The Archivist had found Colin's ancestor Francois LeSueur in the records c 1665 at Kingston and copies and translations of the handwritten entries were provided to him.

Sunday

A church service, 10:30 am , at the Old Dutch Church on Wall Street was well attended by Holland Society representatives who witnessed the presentation of a National Historic plaque for the church to the Rev Ken Walsh The Holland Society members were then hosted by Ken Barricklo at a wonderful lunch. In the afternoon there was a well presented Lecture Series at Senate House Museum on the following topics:

  • Dutch Foods and History – by Ms. Peter Rose
  • Dutch Gardens of New Netherlands – by Ms. Firth Fabend
  • Dutch Tiles – by Mr. Walter Wheeler

All in all a most successful event, largely due to the initial vision of our late President John VanDerbeek IV and the hard work of Trustee Kenneth Hewes Barricklo.
