George E. Banta to Lead Ulster Branch
Dear Members and Friends:
After many years of extraordinary service to The Holland Society as President of the Ulster Branch, Kenneth W. Barricklo stepped down last spring. He will long be remembered as the architect and navigator throughout the long, tenuous, and many times difficult days of the restoration of the new home of The Holland Society at 20 West 44 th Street in Manhattan . Our stunning headquarters are a living testimony to Ken's talent, time, effort, and energy.
Following Charles Zabriskie, Jr.'s appointment as Chairman of the Branches Committee, Charlie appointed George E. Banta, a highly successful businessman and owner of the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck , New York , to succeed Ken as President of the Ulster Branch. I am sure many of the members of the Ulster Branch have met George and his wife, Phebe. George will continue to serve as President of the Dutchess County Branch while we seek to identify an outstanding member of the Ulster Branch to succeed George.
Captain Chip Reynolds Schedules Voyage up the Connecticut River ,
Sunday, October 17, 2010
Members and Friends of the Ulster Branch are invited to join the New England Branch at the arrival and visit of the Society's flagship, the Half Moon , on Sunday, October 17, 2010 , from 1:00-3:00 p.m. , at Goodwin College 's Riverfront Campus on the Connecticut River in East Hartford . The ship will be docked at a pier adjoining Goodwin College . Captain Chip Reynolds will provide a private viewing and personally greet members followed by a wine and cheese reception. A donation of $50 each for adults is requested since a substantial portion of the expenses for the Half Moon's travels are borne by the New Netherland Museum of Albany, New York, where the ship is moored seasonally and repaired and updated during the winter season. Children accompanying adults are free. Checks should be made payable to the New Netherland Museum and mailed to Charles Zabriskie, Jr., 22 Salem Road , Wellesley Hills , MA 02481 . The monies raised for this event will be presented to Captain Chip Reynolds during the celebration to thank the New Netherland Museum for its leadership in maintaining and sailing the living legend known as the Half Moon . Mailing the checks to Charles Zabriskie, Jr., President of the New England Branch, in advance is necessary since a reception is planned, regardless of the weather, and this will ensure that adequate food and wine are available for the attendees. This is a historic event and the first time the Society's ship has been on the Connecticut River in a number of years. We hope you will join us.
