Dutch Heritage Festival, October 5-7

Dutch Heritage Festival

October 5-7, 2018

The Dutch Heritage Festival in Rhinebeck, New York, is a three-day event sponsored by the Old Dutch Reformed Church of Rhinebeck. This event will celebrate the history and contributions of the Dutch in the Hudson Valley.

Friday, October 5th is a three-course prix fixe dinner at the Beekman Arms Tavern with special guest speaker Al Rosenblatt, former judge on New York’s high court to talk about Dutch Heritage in the Hudson Valley. Tickets for the dinner cost $50 and include complimentary hors d’oeuvres, a complimentary glass of bubbles, and a cash bar to enjoy while perusing interesting items of our Dutch Heritage in the Hudson River Valley. Entertainment consisting of Dutch classical music will be provided by Bard College musicians.

Festivities continue on Saturday, October 6th with the Apple Festival at the Old Dutch Reformed Church of Rhinebeck, located across the street from the Beekman Arms Tavern. There will be a lunch with Dutch-inspired dishes, freshly made apple pies for sale made from local apples, crafts, a bake sale of many Dutch-inspired treats, and other vendors. There will be storytelling by Joe Doolittle accompanied by Dutch and other classical music courtesy of Bard College musicians and music played on the historic 1892 Roosevelt Pipe Organ. There will also be all-access tours of the Old Dutch Reformed Church of Rhinebeck and its grounds to include the cemetery, peek inside the famous clock tower to see its inner workings, and explore the basement below the pulpit to see the graves of those still lying in rest underneath the church, one of them rumored to be Henry Beekman himself, and step inside historic pipe organ as it is played to explore its inner workings.

Finally, on Sunday, October 7th enjoy the friendly confines of the Old Dutch Reformed Church as the service is conducted in both Dutch and English. Afterwards, enjoy the hospitality of coffee hour with snacks provided by members and go on one last tour of the church and its grounds.
