Hudson 400 Celebration
2009 marks the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's Voyage of Discovery. The Holland Society of New York will be commemorating
the discovery of New Netherland throughout 2009. Members are encouraged to participate in both New York-area events as
well as local Holland Society branch events. If possible, some members may wish to explore the possibility of
visiting their ancestral villages in Europe during 2009.
In recognition of this auspicious event The Holland Society of New York is partnering with other
New Netherland and Dutch-based organizations to foster and support diverse celebrations in Amsterdam,
New York City and New York State, particularly the Hudson River Valley.
The Holland Society has been preparing for 2009 for several years. New Amsterdam Branch President
Bromme H. Cole and Trustee Jim Van Wagner blazed the Holland Society's initial trail. Their work on
2009 has led them to the development of New York 2009! as a conduit for a broad calendar of events.
An original member of the Holland Society's 2009 Committee, Patrick Van Pelt has spent the past year working hard
on Membership Committee business. With 2009 just around the corner, Patrick would like to dedicate more
of his "Holland Society" volunteer time towards consolidating and furthering the 2009 Committee's work to date.
Cultivating our existing members, inviting new members to join, collaborating with allied organizations all
go hand-in-hand with a heartfelt commemoration of Henry Hudson's discovery of New Netherland.
If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas relative to the celebration of the 400th anniversary of Henry
Hudson's discovery of New Netherland, please let Patrick know. Call him, write him an email, or send him a note
in the mail.
