Historic Moment: Women Become Society Members during Annual Meeting April 9, 2016
An historic moment for the Holland Society of New York occurred at the Annual Meeting on April 9, 2016, when the Members of the Holland Society voted to admit women in the direct male line as full Members in the Society. This vote expanded Society membership eligibility beyond sons in the direct male line to include sisters and daughters as well. The change now allows women to participate as full voting members of the Society since the Society’s founding in 1885, although women have participated for several decades as Society Fellows and Friends as well as in volunteer capacities.
