The Craft in Focus Festival is this weekend in Industry City, Brooklyn! The Festival features many artisans demonstrating traditional crafts, such as printmaking, calligraphy, jewelry making, and stone cutting, among many others. In 1888, the newly-formed Holland Society planned a trip to the Netherlands to visit Amsterdam and other locations. We’ve managed to digitize some of the glass slides that were taken on this trip–view them below.
Our fantastic library at Holland Society headquarters only represents a portion of our collection! The Hugo Grotius collection was purchased by Robert Barnwell Roosevelt from Bom and Bom Book Dealers in Amsterdam in 1890. The collection consists of 137 historical, legal, theological, and literary works, seventeenth century-nineteenth century publications, some early editions by Grotius, and others published after his death.
